Another band it took me a few listens to get into, but once I did I was hooked. 90s Amphetamine Reptile band. Click on the picture for "unofficial" information. Click here to hear 3 of my favorite Cows songs. Funny, I was just talking shit about all the people I've met from Minnesota being assholes. Well I've met Shannon, (with The Heroine Sheiks his later band ) and I could see people thinking he was an asshole. He wasn't to me. I'm quite sure he's forgotten my name (like 3 minutes later), but that's fine with me. I've seen Kevin play with The Melvins but I've never met him so I can't say whether or not he's an asshole.
Here's The Sacred Chao:

John Lennon/The Beatles/The Distraction Boys/The Insomniacrobats

I think they shot the wrong Beatle.Yeah so.... I really like this song.
Here's The Beatles - Hey Bulldog on YouTube:

My life is full of distractions.....
My boss (owner and manager of the Commercial Taphouse)used to do this label called Cryptovision when he lived in NY in the 80s. I'm not sure where you can get stuff from because I'm not sure if he still has all that stuff. Anyway, James (my boss) used to play keyboards for this band called The Distraction Boys, who were on Cryptovision, and man it's pretty smokin' if you like noisey garage rock, which I do (I have my moods). It reminds me of The Oblivions and bands like The Coachwhips in a way, though this little slab came out a bit earlier. It's also live, which in this case means the cymbals are pretty loud and they kinda overpower the keyboards (the reason I wanted to hear this band), but you can still hear them if you listen. Regardless it rocks. You should take a listen to The Distraction Boys - Pay Off The Cops

That's all for today, unless you haven't heard The Insomniacrobats - "That Lady's Face" yet.... in which case check it out, it's the first "song" on their MySpace profile.

The Amoeba Men/The Insomniacrobats/The Intelligence

Well it's out folks and let me tell ya.... it's smokin'. The first time Jason played me this band I guess I just wasn't in the mood, and it bored the hell out of me. After sharing a wall with Jason, and hearing him play Spacemen 3 every day for like a month in '04, I sort of took a liking to them. Apparently they were involved in the same scene as The Jesus And Mary Chain, and I guess that make sense. I like JAMC, but I like Spacemen 3 alot more. Their story is very interesting if you ever get to check it out (www.faust-pages.com...tons of free Faust mp3s). They are lumped in with that whole "Krautrock" thing... in fact they have a song called "Krautrock", A lot of their stuff is disjointed and experimental, which is good, but throughout their career they still managed to put out some really listenable rock songs. This being one of them from the record Faust IV (November,1973)

Listen To "Faust - The Sad Skinhead"

Hallelujah! / mix

These days Hallelujah!
is still working on a batch of recordings from the past summer through
winter ('05), new life breathed into them this year with the addition
of Captain Admiral Joseph David Gavin Esq a.k.a. Some of the same people from Seven Hearts. We're friends with these guys because Jason and I come from an equally as degenerate locale and we've known eachother since before Leper Colony. Bands like The Rejected, The Seven Hearts, Escapeman, just to name three. The Members of this band are teaming up again with another Lynchburg native, (last seen in a really good band from the mid-nineties called Eustress Urchin) as I write this... I will most definately grace this blog with one of their new projects as soon I get a copy from them.

Listen to Leper Colony - Narc

Those Lynchburg boys also turned me on to a really great band that I have since not been able to get tired of hearing. The Jesus Lizard gave me my first glimpse of them on a JL compilation called "BANG", the song was called "Chrome" and I didn't realize until later that they were covering two songs from the band CHROME's "Half Machine Lip Moves" LP This led me to more and more stuff by this band, and the more I heard the more I liked. I chose this track because when I first moved to Richmond, I was with Jason and we ran into Mike (from Lynchburg) and went back to Mike's house and he played an old "Target video" by Chrome and this was the song.

It's also on a Ralph Records compilation called "Subterranean Modern" with that one weird band

Listen To Chrome - Meet You In The Subway.

SILVER NINJAS + Mix

Well first off... I lost the song titles to about 10 songs that I have on an old CDR(I've since converted these). The first person to tell me the song title I will send you something nice. If you know the title of the record it's on, I will give you two nice things. And If you know where a cd or record is I may have to send you money.(We'll talk)
I feel really bad for this 9th Ward New Orleans artist and all at the Rhinestone Records camp.(as well as ALL people dealing with disasters on this planet) Check the link for his update as of October 13th.
The Minutemen - Nature Without Man
...it follows the theme here a bit. My first real listen to a whole Link Wray CD was in New Orleans in August of 2001. He's not from there, but I associate him with that place, especially because of the lyrics to another song by Link called "Soul Train".... "Get on that soul train, down here in New Orleans, goes cross the U.S.A., to hear what the people say." Unfortunately I haven't converted that song yet, so here's a differant one, that is a pretty rockin' tune as well.
(posted by Bill)

Suppression/Sockeye

Suppression, once reluctantly part of a genre that was tagged "Power Violence", have since moved on, only to be compared to Death From Above 1979, and that band from Rhode Island that starts with an L. They sound like neither. They DO make you want to jerk about like a fish out of water. Watch: Suppression - Release The Piranha (wmv). Awesome video for this song from their LP of the same name. AVAILABLE NOW ON CNP RECORDS!!! Much thanks to Joey Fitchett for producing this and much thanks to Joe Lagey for compressing it so that YOU the music fan can download and watch it.
Look for this in the winter on the upcoming CNP Records DVD.

Sockeye...what can you say about Sockeye? With song titles like "Mater Blower" (a song about sodomizing a vegetable in someone's garden late at night.) or "Facial Disc" (with the chorus being "I just wanna jizz on your facial disc...ooohoooh"...I mean come on,... jizzing on an owl...) "Steve Albini Fucked Pac-Man" ,"Boy With Breast Implants", "A Pizza With Ulysses S. Grant On It".... the list goes on and on. The song I chose for this post is "Buttfuque Yr Face" from the band's "Retards Hiss Past My Window" LP (pictured above) This band severely warped our world view in the early to mid-nineties and has driven away many potential mates as well.It continues to crack me the hell up when I'm in a not so good mood. Everything happens for a reason I suppose...even this wacky band of gents from Ohio. I believe you can write to Food Fortunata (He was the lead singer and he's also done a lot of other weird outsider type stuff) and find out how you can hear lots more Sockeye, if you posses such a juvenile sense of humor as we do.

HOAX / Pere Ubu

These freaky dudes asked Jason and I to be on our label, it was at a show at a place called Wildcats in Richmond. I am reminded as I am about to go play a show with Hallelujah! that our new member (shut up) Joe was once in another band called [man speaking chinese] with Dave who moved with Stephanie to Texas. I'm sure since they are in Dallas they are fairing better than alot of places closer to shore. I more worry about how they are dealing with the social changes that will undoubtedly be headed their way, and all of our ways as well in the coming months (or perhaps years). [man speaking chinese] turned out to be one of my favorite bands of 2005 I think, simply because they didn't really choose to have a band really, they were just some people who jammed together and liked to record themselves, but they ended up playing some really cool live shows with us, and we became good friends. "Docu-rock" is it's best discription with some really cool slide shows and filmwork. They sorta have a Neu! type of sound. I think I remember Matt Frith (R.I.P.) trying to tell me how good this band was and I think I remember hearing some of it when I went over to his house.Matt Frith was a druggie, he died a druggie. He was the atypical hippie, but then he was more than that. The guy was well read on what he was getting into, and he would talk all day about it if you let him.Sometimes it got on my nerves, but then sometimes I let him and he would turn me on to Gong and Can and Hawkwind. That was quite a few years back, and I never paid attention to it then, I guess I'm just now catching up really. If you'd like to know more about the history of this freaked out band you can go here.Listen to Gong - The Pothead Pixies

JUGGERNAUT

This is the first song I remember hearing by them on a compilation that Jason got from this other guy, about 10 years ago, it's a different mix than the one I remember (which I have on an old mix tape tucked away somewhere), but still pretty good.
Juggernaut - World Of The L.S.D.
